Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger joined Arsenal in 1996 and was to be the club’s very first foreign manger. Following George Grahams management The Gunners had experienced to short reins from Stewart Houston and Bruce Rioch and were in desperate need of someone more long term to take the team to further glory and many victory. Wenger was to prove to be the perfect man for the job.

Prior to his arrival at Highbury, Wenger had experienced significant recognition as a manager at Monaco and Asian club Japan’s Grampus Eight. But it was to be at arsenal were he would make his mark as one of the most successful managers of all time.

In his first official season at Arsenal Wenger took the team to be Premier League champions and topped this with the title of the FA Cup. This was to bring the club the Double win as well as renewed respect as one of the top London football clubs.

The Frenchman was renowned for his techniques both on and off the pitch. He incorporated new field strategies alongside the introduction of dietary regimes. He also reconstructed the squad with the addition of several foreign players such as Patrick Vieira, Marc Overmars and Emmanuel Petit. A little later on Wenger signed Ian Wright and the notable Thierry Henry, adding to an already invincible team.

In 2001-02 Arsenal gained another Double win, taking once again both the Premier league title and the FA Cup. A further FA Cup was won the following season with a remarkable unbeaten title campaign where they lost none of their league games during the entire season.
